Tulpehocken Trinity United Church of Christ is one of the oldest churches in America of the German Reformed tradition. The first communion was on October 18, 1727 and was administered by John Philip Boehm. It is known as the "Feast of Roses" church. The rose has special significance to the church because the deed between the church and Caspar Wistar in 1745 stated one red rose would be paid to him and his descendents every year on the second Sunday of June for 100 acres on which to build a place of worship and a cemetery. The present church, built in 1853, is a two-story limestone building. It is built in the same spot as a previous church built in 1772. The social hall and Sunday school, known as Wistar Hall, was added in 1956. Reverend James M. Garretson presided over the 275th anniversary celebration on Sunday October 27. While the church was being remodeled for the celebration, Shultz Refinishing refinished the pews.

Using cut nails and old growth white pine, the pews were built into the church when the church was built.  Originally men and women did not sit together so a partition wall was incorporated into the design of the pews.  The posts supporting the balcony were in the way so holes were cut into the pews and were built around the posts.

By eliminating the rows with the balcony posts through the seats and changing the spacing the rows, more room was created for the comfort of the congregation.  Some of the pews that had holes in them were shortened, making room for wheel chairs.  The center dividing wall was eliminated and new supports were manufactured to take their place.

The sanctuary is located on the second floor.  The pews were too long to take down the stairs, so we removed a storm window and lowered them to the truck using a platform lift.  They were returned in the same manner.
